Transportation and Food Access in Rural Wisconsin
November 8, 2024 · 6 min read
If the nearest grocery store is twenty miles away and the car is in the shop, the family pantry is empty no matter how much food is on the shelves of that distant store. Rural food insecurity is, in large part, a transportation problem.
Our mobile pantry program brings shelf-stable groceries to several smaller communities each month. Locations and dates are published on our Events page.
We also partner with a regional volunteer driver network that delivers food boxes to homebound seniors and people without reliable transportation. If you or someone you know would benefit, please call.
If you have a reliable vehicle and a few hours a month, volunteer driver shifts are some of the most directly impactful ways to help. A single trip can mean a week of meals for a family that simply could not reach the pantry on their own.
